S U P I M A

The Supima name was derived from a blending of the words “Superior” and “Pima.”

Today, Supima focuses on partnering with leading brands across fashion and home markets to ensure that consumers have access to and receive top quality products crafted with Supima’s premium cotton.

WHAT IS SUPIMA COTTON ?

Supima cotton is used to designate high-quality American-grown Pima cotton, an extra-long staple cotton (ELS).
Supima® is a trademarked brand controlled by a non-profit organization of the same name.

EXTRA – LONG STAPLE ( ELS)

A cotton’s fibers need to be at least 1 3/8” long to earn the extra-long staple (ELS) designation, and Supima is one of the longest ELS cottons around. With an average length over 1 7/16”, Supima’s long fibers and superior strength result in a stronger yarn. This means Supima fabrics can be made finer and softer than other cotton counterparts. Fiber fineness, combined with length and strength, result in a silky feel, luxurious luster, less pilling, and the ability to achieve greater color shade depth.

SUPIMA IS RARE

Only 3% of the cotton grown in America is Pima, and even less than that qualifies to bear the Supima name. The grand majority of American cotton is of the upland variety, primarily grown around the Delta region, the Southeast, and Texas.
Supima can only be grown in a few select regions, like the Southwest and Far West region, that’s because the premium plant requires a nice long growing season in a hot arid environment. Rather than being rain-fed. Supima cotton plants need to be fully irrigated.

SUSTAINABLE BY NATURE

Supima’s premium natural fiber is grown on approximately 500 family owned farms, many of which are passed down from generation to generation. Their land is their legacy and great care is taken to preserve the health of the soil and conserve the water that nourishes it. Supima is the most luxurious, eco friendly and fully compostable with zero waste.

WHAT MAKES SUPIMA COTTON SPECIAL

  • STRONGER FIBER – Supima is twice as strong as regular cotton, which makes for extraordinarily resilient products. The longer fiber resists pulling, breaking and tearing, resulting in fashion products that are incredibly resilient and keep their form for a longer-lasting product.
  • SOFTER FABRIC – Supima is inherently softer and more luxurious due to its extra-long staple fiber. The length of the fiber produces smoother, cleaner yarns that result in a softer fabric that resists pilling. This means that your products will feel sumptuously soft and only get softer as time passes.
  • VIBRANT COLORS – Supima’s finer fibers absorb dye with a deep, long-lasting penetration. The result is a product that retains color better than regular cottons. Supima products keep their brilliance wash after wash, giving you many years of use.

TRANSPARENCY

Supima is able to authenticate its cotton across the entire supply from the fiber and yarn to the fabric and finished product at retail. This complete transparency enables an open dialogue about all relevant facts, including point of origin, sustainability, and social and economic responsibility aspects. Supima’s transparency is based on forensic science analysis of the natural fiber itself revealing its place of origin.
